Turbochargers make more power! by RPM

You may or may not have heard about turbochargers before, did you know that these amazing components can be used to give your marine vessel more power? At RPM, We know diesel, and we know how to enhance any diesel-based combustion engine to get the most out of it. That enhancement might have different meanings for everyone, whether that be ga mileage, extra horsepower, or both. At RPM, we can install turbochargers to get your boat up to speed, no pun intended! Installing turbochargers is called ‘turbocharging”. If your goal is more power, better milage, or a bit of both, you should have RPM diesel install, or upgrade your boat’s existing turbocharger. So what exactly is a turbocharger, and what do they do?

Engine systems without any form of advanced air in taking, called ‘forced induction’, are referred to as ‘naturally aspirated’ systems. In an NA system, volumes of air are moved into the engine solely by its air intake. This allows the engine to combust air with fuel generating usable power for thrust from the turbines. Forced induction systems, like ones with turbochargers, behave a tad differently. The idea is the same, but with a greater ability to take in massive amounts of highly pressurized air. This is done when the turbo spools up to extremely fast RPMS by way of using the exhaust system’s excess gas pressure to spin up the turbo. When the turbo spools, it’s then able to pull in all that extra air we just mentioned, and it ‘forces’ this air into the engine’s intake system. This highly pressurized air causes pressure to boost’ which further increases the power an engine can produce for the amount of work it’s doing.

This means a few things. First, smaller engines that were built for fuel-saving can now maintain that fuel efficiency while drawing power closer to their larger displacement counterparts.. It also means boats with larger engines will make substantially more power- without too much additional fuel cost. At RPM Diesel we carry, install, and maintain turbocharger systems from and for a variety of major worldwide known brands. This includes Borg Warner, Garrett, Cummins, Hoslet, IHI, KKK, Mitsubishi, and Schwitzer. If your engine system is already equipped with a turbo, we can offer upgrades from the stock Turbo. We can also give you a quote on what it would cost for parts and labor to install and tune your engine to work with a turbo. Because of the additional power involved, and components it’s good to know how and what to maintain and how often.

Take a look at some of the benefits of Turbocharge your Boat with RPM Diesel:
